Standardized Testing
New Jersey State Assessments
The West Long Branch School District participates in the statewide assessment program established by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE). State assessments provide one measure of student learning and are used alongside classroom performance, teacher observations, district assessments, and other information to help educators understand student progress and instructional needs.
NJSLA-Adaptive: English Language Arts and Mathematics
Students in Grades 3 and 4 participate in the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment-Adaptive (NJSLA-A) in:
- English Language Arts (ELA)
- Mathematics
The NJSLA-A is aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and is designed to measure students' knowledge and skills in ELA and mathematics.
Specific school testing dates and additional information will be shared with families in advance of testing.
Other State Assessments
Some students may participate in additional state-required assessments based on their individual programs and needs.
ACCESS for English Language Learners
Students identified as multilingual/English language learners participate in the ACCESS assessment, which measures English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM)
The DLM is New Jersey's alternate assessment for eligible students with the most significant intellectual disabilities. Participation is determined through the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
